Canio’s Cultural Cafe (CCC) is Canio’s Books educational 501c3 not for profit. While we’re not exactly serving meals, we are serving good food for thought. Our mission with Canio’s Cultural Cafe is to support and engender community interest in the cultural arts, with an emphasis on literature, visual arts, and current events.
The CCC accomplishes this by hosting lectures, workshops, seminars and other public forums that include a diversity of artists, writers, educators, independent scholars, students, and community members who might not otherwise be heard.
Our programming includes:
* Marathon Readings including Emily Dickinson, John Steinbeck, Walt Whitman, and Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick.
* Master Writing Workshops on Poetry, Nature, Memoir, and Fiction with renowned writers including Mark Doty, Carl Safina, David Bouchier, and more.
* Writing Workshops with Maryann Calendrille
* Through the Viewfinder: Photography workshops and forums with Kathryn Szoka
* Racial Justice East End: The CCC is a founding member of this group which sponsors public book groups. A selection of recent book discussions includes The New Jim Crow, Becoming Ms. Burton, Just Mercy, Between the World and Me, The Third Reconstruction and The Far Away Brothers.
* Canio’s4Kids: a monthly book read with Ms. Sigrid for children 4 & up
* Community workshops on the Environment created by Northwest Earth Institute. Multi-week workshops with community members
* Eye on the Environment series: lectures and readings focusing on the environment.
* Canio’s Cinema Series: From Oscar winners to Books-to-Film, Irish History & more.
* Sag Harbor’s Thomas Merton Circle events and Spiritual writing workshops
* Master Workshops on Dante’s Divine Comedy
There’s more in store. Join us for a CCC event soon!
We are a founding member of the Sag Harbor Cultural District. The SHCD actively supports cultural and artistic resources to further the sense of Sag Harbor as a place where culture matters and creativity thrives.

A tasty idea…what we need is a staff chef with literary inclinations! Any interest? Helen Simonson was just brilliant and funny! Wish you could have been here!
This sounds great. Writing workshops can be so inspirational.
